About Dennis Y. Fong, M.D.
Education and Training:
I grew up and received my education and training in Canada. I earned an M.D. degree "with distinction" (first class honors all four years) at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. My family medicine residency was completed in 1983 at the same university. During the residency, my training included rotations in office family medicine, geriatrics, internal medicine, surgery, urology, orthopedics, obstetrics and gynecology, intensive care, emergency medicine, psychiatry and pediatrics. Since licensure I have always kept up continuing medical education with seminars, lectures, reading and self-study.
Practice Experience:
From 1997 to 2023, I had been practicing in Walnut Creek, and had been on active staff at John Muir Walnut Creek Hospital throughout.
Certification and Membership:
I am certified by The American Board of Family Practice and am a member of The American Academy of Family Practice. In 1985 I was certified a fellow of the North American College of Manipulative Medicine. While in Canada I was certified by the licensing board to do medical acupuncture.
Languages:
Besides English, I speak both Cantonese and Mandarin Chinese; I also read and write Chinese.
Non-Practice Work
From 2010 to present I have been a part-time physician advisor to Elation Health, Inc., an EHR company. In 2022 I was consultant and acting medical director to DWGAS, Inc., a Direct Care Entity (DCE) company.
Before Walnut Creek, I had been in practice for fourteen years, from 1983 on. I practiced for twelve years in Edmonton, Canada, and for two years in Peoria, Illinois. Besides office practice, I was also on active staff at a large 700-bed teaching hospital while in Canada, and I was on active staff at all three hospitals in Peoria, Illinois. Also, while in Canada I was a part-time clinical lecturer at the University of Alberta.
